HubSpot at 1,000 Contacts: Which Tier You Land On and What It Bills
What a 1,000-contact HubSpot list costs as of 2026-10-25: the tier it fits, the per-seat bill, and where the next contact pushes you.
A 1,000-contact list fits exactly inside the 1,000 marketing contacts included with HubSpot Starter, which costs $20 per seat per month at list, or $7 per seat on the current annual promotion. One seat therefore bills $20 per month, $240 per year. A list of 2,001 contacts leaves Starter behind and lands on Professional at $890 per month with 3 core seats included, plus a one-time $3,000 onboarding fee.
- HubSpot Starter includes 1,000 marketing contacts, exactly covering a 1,000-contact list (checked 2026-10-25).
- Starter costs $20 per seat per month at list, so one seat bills $20 per month or $240 per year for that list (calculated 2026-10-25).
- The current Starter promotion is $7 per seat per month with an annual upfront commitment, which is $84 per year for one seat (calculated 2026-10-25).
- Professional includes 2,000 marketing contacts and costs $890 per month with 3 core seats, plus $3,000 one-time onboarding (checked 2026-10-25).
- Extra marketing contacts are sold in blocks of 5,000, starting at $250 per month for the first block above Professional's included 2,000 (checked 2026-10-25).
- Three seats on Starter for the same 1,000-contact list bill $60 per month at list, because seats multiply and contacts do not (calculated 2026-10-25).

On this page
A 1,000-contact list is the exact size where HubSpot's contact allowances start to matter, because it is the last list that fits inside the cheapest paid tier without buying more contacts. Starter includes 1,000 marketing contacts and costs $20 per seat per month, so one seat bills $20 per month, or $240 a year. The current promotion drops the seat to $7 with an annual upfront commitment, which is $84 a year. One contact more than 1,000 and the answer changes completely: Professional starts at $890 per month with 2,000 contacts and 3 core seats, plus a one-time $3,000 onboarding fee.
Which tier a 1,000-contact list lands on
| Tier | Marketing contacts included | Monthly price, one seat |
|---|---|---|
| Free | Not published on the pricing page | $0 |
| Starter | 1,000 | $20 ($7 promotional) |
| Professional | 2,000 | $890 with 3 core seats |
| Enterprise | 10,000 | $3,600 with 5 core seats |
What the same list bills in three configurations
| Configuration | Plan | Monthly bill |
|---|---|---|
| 1,000 contacts, one seat, list price | Starter | $20 |
| 1,000 contacts, one seat, promotional annual | Starter | $7 |
| 1,000 contacts, three seats, list price | Starter | $60 |
| 2,001 contacts, three seats | Professional | $890 plus $3,000 onboarding in year one |
Seat multiplication and contact multiplication are separate (calculated 2026-10-25).
What the numbers actually mean
Contacts and seats are two independent dials, and only one of them moves with your list. The pricing page sells Starter per seat with 1,000 marketing contacts attached to the plan, so a three-person marketing team with the same 1,000 names pays $60 per month instead of $20 (calculated 2026-10-25) while getting no extra contacts at all. That is the first surprise in a HubSpot bill: headcount, not audience size, drives the ticket until the contact ceiling is crossed.
Crossing 1,000 is the expensive move. Professional is $890 per month, which is 44.5 times the Starter list rate (calculated 2026-10-25), and it arrives with a required $3,000 onboarding fee and 3 core seats. The contact allowance doubles to 2,000 at the same time, so a team at 1,100 contacts pays for a lot of headroom it may never use.
Above Professional's 2,000 included contacts, HubSpot sells blocks of 5,000 rather than individual records. The first block above the allowance is $250 per month, and the per-block price declines through $225, $200 and $175 to $150 once the account passes 82,000 contacts. A 7,000-contact list therefore bills $890 plus $250, or $1,140 per month on the annual rate (calculated 2026-10-25).
There is no separate send fee at any of these levels. HubSpot's Starter documentation states that marketing email has no separate send fee and that the send limit follows the number of marketing contacts purchased, which means a 1,000-contact plan sends to a 1,000-contact audience and the invoice line for email is zero.
How we measured it
Figures come from the HubSpot Marketing Hub pricing page and the Starter and Professional product pages, all fetched on 2026-10-25, including the structured offer data listing Starter at $20 per seat, Professional at $890 and the 5,000-contact blocks at $250 for the first range. No account was created and no list was uploaded. Seat totals, annual equivalents and multiples are arithmetic on published prices and are labelled calculated.
What changes in practice
Keep the list under 1,000 while the team is small. That ceiling is worth $10,680 a year in subscription cost at list between Starter and Professional (calculated 2026-10-25), which is more than most small teams spend on the rest of their marketing stack combined.
Buy seats only for people who build campaigns. Because a seat adds $20 per month at list and adds no contacts, a five-person team that only needs two builders is paying $60 per month for read-only colleagues (calculated 2026-10-25), money that would fund two additional 5,000-contact blocks.
Model the year-one bill, not the monthly one. Professional's first year is $12,600 on the annual rate with onboarding (calculated 2026-10-25), and any comparison against a $20 Starter seat should use that number rather than the $890 headline.
Bottom line
At exactly 1,000 contacts, HubSpot Starter is the whole answer: $20 per month for one seat, $240 a year, or $84 a year on the promotional rate (calculated 2026-10-25). The tier changes at 1,001 contacts, where the bill jumps to $890 per month plus $3,000 onboarding, so managing the list is worth more than any discount you can negotiate.
Frequently asked questions
Does HubSpot charge per contact?
No. The pricing page sells plans with an included allowance of marketing contacts, and extra contacts are bought in blocks of 5,000 rather than per record. A 1,000-contact list costs the same as a 600-contact list on the same plan.
Is there a separate fee for sending email?
Not according to HubSpot's own Starter documentation, which states that marketing email does not have a separate send fee and that the email send limit is based on the number of marketing contacts you purchase. Contacts, not sends, are the billing unit.
What happens when the list passes 1,000 contacts?
Starter's included 1,000 no longer covers the list. Professional includes 2,000 marketing contacts at $890 per month, and above that contacts are purchased in 5,000 blocks starting at $250 per month, with the block price falling to $150 as the contact count rises.
Do I need the $3,000 onboarding to buy Professional?
Yes. The pricing page marks Professional Onboarding as required and one-time, at $3,000 for Marketing Hub and $1,500 for Sales Hub, and Enterprise carries $7,000 and $3,500 respectively.
